Troubleshooting
Start here: Check connection. Right-click the tray icon → Check connection…. The status window shows, in plain language, whether Vizspect is running, whether Visio is open, and whether each AI assistant is connected, with one-click Reconnect AI assistants and Restart buttons, and a Copy details for support button if you need to get in touch. It’s the fastest way to see what’s wrong and fix it.
- Assistant says “not connected.” Open Check connection… and click Reconnect AI assistants (also on the top level of the tray menu). Fully quit and reopen the assistant afterwards so it re-reads its config.
- Reconnect didn’t help? Restart the server: tray menu → Advanced → Restart, then try the assistant again. Reconnect fixes the assistant’s side (its connection settings); Restart replaces a stuck server. When the settings were already right, the restart is the one that works.
- Status window shows “Vizspect running ✗.” Open the tray menu → Advanced → Start (or Restart). If it won’t stay up, Advanced → View logs; the usual causes are another program using port 8765, or a second copy of the app running.
- “Visio is not running” errors. Start Visio and open a drawing (
.vsdx), then retry. The server never launches Visio itself. - “Visio is busy” errors. Click out of any shape you’re text-editing and close any open Visio dialog (Print Setup, etc.), then retry.
- Assistant connects but tools fail. Advanced → Restart, then
Advanced → View logs →
server.log; the last lines name the failing tool. (Log lines never contain your drawing’s text.) - Claude Code shows “SDK auth failed” but still lists your tools. You’re connected, and this is a harmless warning, not a failure. Recent Claude Code versions check whether a server uses OAuth sign-in by requesting a discovery address; Vizspect needs no sign-in on your own machine, so that address returns “Not Found,” Claude Code notes it, then connects normally. If the assistant lists your Visio tools and can draw, ignore the message.
- A page with “backup” in its name appeared. A safety net, not an error. When the assistant deletes five or more shapes from one page within a minute, the app first copies that page to a timestamped backup so the previous state stays recoverable. Once you’re happy with the edits, the backup page is safe to delete, or copy shapes back from it to undo the burst.
- Two “V” icons. Hover over each: a stale icon from a previous run vanishes on touch. A second launch of the app refuses to start while one is already running.
- Which version am I running? Right-click → About (version and build date). The hover tooltip also shows the version and whether the server is running.
- Still stuck? In Check connection…, click Copy details for support
(version, OS, and what’s connected) and paste it into your message, or attach
server.logandserver-console.logfrom Advanced → View logs. Contact Vizspect support.
